JOSEFINA AYERZA interviews CHARLES LONG
Charles Long: We should drink some water before getting further into conversation…
Josefina Ayerza: Is the water cooler a piece of art in the show?
The artifact is not a piece of art in itself; the act of drinking water from the paper cups that come with the water cooler, in the show, is part of the art.
So when we drink the water, what else are we doing apart from drinking water?
I like the thought of a substance entering our bodies; it alters them, then our bodies will alter the substance, and the substance will alter the outside world.
And the music…which I see was put together for the sculptures in the show…does it transform the sculptures, us, the world? I don't know that we transform the music…
The music yes, is part of the sculptures, it affects them, us…sure, and we affect the music…
Does the music work with the water, work with the clay, work with the lounging on the furniture?
The whole show has an autonomous touch.
What connects the watery sound to the new arousal's prospect?
It relates to a watery sound because it is connectedness, of the protuberances, of the depressions.
Is this moment pure bliss?
If I do not take on the guilt of being a man.
Is a woman's endeavor not going through the same?
Not the same; there is a sex identity, a sex biological identity.
What is identifying the man with the actual bliss?
Being the one in control…
Sexuality and form, did they always belong together?
Sexuality and form appropriate to my time.
Are we setting up for a new orgasm in the annals of art?
View the trajectory of patriarchal sculpture: the big moment is modernism; postmodernism is the moment after orgasm.
Do you see the feminist movement active in postmodernism?
Postmodernism is post-feminist; postmodernism continues without reasserting the moment…
The moment of the sexual act?
Postmodernism is masturbation, and masturbation is homosexual.
Masturbation is homosexual, why?
